Princes Age Category Slalom

Al Vickers (24/06/07)

On a wet Sunday in June, 25 competitors descended upon the club for a chance to set some records in our first ranking competition of the season.  Unfortunately the weather held the  records at bay, but the atmosphere was alive and there were some close battles and some awesome skiing.

The only Under 12 competitor Jemma Allman skied out of her skin, with a PB of 1@55/16m.  Again it was a shame to see only one person in the Under 17’s division, Amelia Winter skiing a respectable 4@55/13m.  In the Under 21 Men’s saw the Scotsman Sam Haslim edge out New Zealander and local Prince’s coach, Garth Milicich with 1.5@58/12m.  Senior Men’s 1 saw Nick Allman scrape through ahead of Jez Marston and Jeremy Stephenson with 3.5@55/12m.  Special mention must go to David Kaye who got a PB of 0@55/14.25m going out the front at 14.25m in dramatic form.  The 2nd round for David saw him fall exiting the course after his 55km pass and then in the 3rd round he missed his deep water start.  ‘Good on ya mate, at least you got through that elusive 16m pass aye’?  Senior Ladies 1 saw Christine Perkins ski 4@55/16m to take the title.  Senior Men’s 2, Keith Bush took top honours ahead of Glyn Chapman with 2@55/13m.  Senior Ladies 1, Janina Maher skied very consistent with a top score of 3@55kph to earn herself a prize in her division.  Jonathan Cohen and Colin Slater fought it out in Senior Men’s 3 with Johnathon skiing 2@55/12m for victory.  Sue Slater skied 3 @ 52kph for her 1st placing in Senior Ladies 3.

The Open divisions were great to watch with Lynsey Graham winning the Ladies with 2@55/12m ahead of Anna Sembos who scored 1.5@55/13m. Open Men’s, Toby Cole 4.25@58/14.25m earned him 3rd place.  Jurgen Schweigert skied 1.5@58/13m for 2nd and Steve Godwin’s 1@58/11.25m took the top score of the day and bragging rights over his fellow competitors in Open Men’s.

Thanks to everyone who took part and helped in the running of the day.  It was great to see enthusiasm still running high even though the weather wasn’t the best.  We look forward to seeing you all down on the start dock again soon.
